The Manchester United boss, David Moyes, has said that winning the Champions League is his team’s target and they are determined to do it.
A few days back, Moyes had said that United lacks world class players at the moment and it’s difficult for them to go all the way in the Champions League this time around. After that statement of Moyes, it seemed Champions League might not be one of United’s top priorities this season, but, talking to the reporters ahead of his team’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Moyes made it clear that the Red Devils are aiming for European glory.
Moyes said, “We are looking to win all the competitions including the Champions League. We will try our best to do that.”
United’s experienced defender, Rio Ferdinand, will not play in the match against Shakhtar because of his groin injury. However, Moyes said that he would not have brought Ferdinand here even if he had been fit.
The 50 years old Scot said, “Yes, Rio is suffering from a groin injury. That’s a minor one and there is nothing to worry about. However, he was not going to play in this match anyway.”
Apart from Ferdinand, the three other players who have also not been included in the Manchester United squad for the match against Shakhtar are Wilfried Zaha, Anderson and Fabio da Silva. But, the good news for the Red Devils fans is that their star striker Robin Van Persie has got back to 100% fitness now and he will probably be starting against Shakhtar.
When asked about Van Persie, Moyes said, “Yes, Robin is 100% fit now. However, we haven’t decided yet if he will be in the starting XI or not.”
Van Persie had made a substitute appearance in United’s last game against West Bromwich Albion.
